FAQ

What is MealGig?

A marketplace that connects vetted locals with households for one visit that includes ingredient and grocery pickup, delivery, in-home cooking of 6–8 portions, and cleanup.

How do I book?

Find a dish, choose a local, and pick a timeslot, optionally add groceries on top of ingredients, confirm and pay. You get a booking confirmation and prep checklist.

How much does a session cost?

Price varies by cook, menu, and city. Example prices are shown on the booking page. We aim to be cheaper per portion than single-portion delivery, this mostly depends on the choice of your cook

For Customers

Can I request dietary needs or allergies?

Yes. List allergies and preferences during booking. Cooks must follow these instructions.

Can I get a tax deduction?

In Denmark some household services qualify for the servicefradrag (e.g. grocery delivery, cleaning). We prefill the SKAT form to help, but final submission needs MitID.

What if the cook cancels?

We try to find a replacement. If none is available you can reschedule or get a refund per our policy.

For Cooks

Who can cook on the platform?

Students, retirees and experienced home cooks who pass our vetting and meet hygiene and insurance requirements.

Do I need to register a business?

In Denmark you do not need a CVR unless your turnover exceeds DKK 50,000 in 12 months. Above that you must register and handle VAT as applicable.

How do I get paid?

Payments are processed after sessions. Payout schedule and fees are visible in your dashboard.

Is insurance required?

Yes. Cooks must have liability insurance covering food incidents and property damage. We provide guidance and partner offers where available.

Safety, hygiene and compliance

Are cooks food-safety checked?

We require completion of our hygiene module and a digital own-check for each session. Municipal contracts may require additional certificates.

Can cooks store food at home?

No. Ingredients must be transported directly to the customer and not stored overnight in the cook’s home to keep private-sphere status.

What happens if someone gets sick from the food?

Report immediately to support. We investigate, suspend the cook if needed, and assist with claims and insurance.

Payments and tax

How are payments handled?

We use secure payment processing. The platform takes a fee and the cook receives the agreed share.

How do service declarations work?

We prefill SKAT serviceerklæring forms for cooks. Cooks or customers submit them through MitID so customers can claim servicefradrag when eligible.

Do you report earnings?

We provide annual income statements. We comply with applicable reporting rules and tax obligations.

Partnerships and pilots

Can municipalities run a pilot with you?

Yes. We design small pilots focused on nutrition, social outcomes and cost comparisons. Contact partnerships@mealgig.com to discuss.

Can this be used for eldercare services?

Yes. The service can supplement existing MadService offerings if procurement and safeguarding requirements are met.
